Natural Outdoor Pools In Hong Kong
Bride’s Pool and Mirror Pool, Plover Cove, near Tai Mei Tuk
Urban legend has it that the area gets its name from a bride who fell into the pool when she was being carried in a sedan chair during stormy weather. Today, there is a clearly marked, paved and flat path to get to the falls — phew! Both pools are great for a swim and self-timer shots.
How to get there: Take the MTR to Tai Po Market stop. If it’s a Sunday or public holiday, you can take the 275R bus to the Bride’s Pool stop found at exit A3. Any other day, just hop in a taxi, which will take about 25 minutes. From there, there are clearly marked paths for the Bride’s Pool Nature Trail. Once past the trailhead, go down the stairs and over the bridge where you’ll need to turn left to arrive at the falls. Shortly you will see the signpost leading you to Mirror Pool. For Bride’s Pool, trace your steps back to the crossroads and walk in the direction heading towards the barbecue site. Through the barbecue site and up some stairs, you will find yourself at Bride’s Pool.

Discovery Bay Rock Pools
Get out and enjoy the great outdoors by heading over to the Discovery Bay Rock Pools. This might not be a “pool” per se, but we think a rock pool sort of counts! Regardless, it’s a beautiful place to come for a day out and you won’t regret taking a dip in the sweltering Hong Kong heat come summer.
How to get there: From Central, take the ferry from Central Pier 3 to Discovery Bay. Walk toward the Discovery Bay Golf Club (about 15 minutes) and follow the road. When you’ve hit the main road, turn right onto the hill. The rock pools are hidden in the trees and boulders off the side of the road. You’ll have to find a clearing and walk your way to the pools, but there are a couple of them and they’re easy to spot.

Silvermine Bay Rock Pools
If you’re looking for more sizeable rock pools to dip into, then the Silvermine Bay Rock Pools are the perfect alternative. Boasting a larger pool for swimming and epic waterfalls, this is worth the trip to Mui Wo. The advantage of wading in these pools is that they’re really easy to get to — simply get the ferry to Mui Wo and then take a leisurely stroll past the beach and through the fields until you arrive at the tranquil setting.
